What’s the Most Popular Card Game in America?

Using Google Trends, a recent survey looked at the most popular card games in America between November 2020 and November 2021. They did this to uncover what was the most searched card game not just in every state, but in every region, as well.

The Most Popular Card Game

In 11 states, the most popular card game is Spades. This game was invented in America in the 1930s but has since become popular around the world. Being played online has also opened it up to a wider audience. There has also been some standardization of the rules because of tournaments.

It’s known as a trick card game, where spades are always trumps. A trick consists of four cards, one that’s played from the hand of each player, one at a time. The first card played to a trick is the lead. The trick is won by the player who has the highest trump or the player with the highest card in the suit that’s led. The winner of the round then leads next. Each hand is worth 13 tricks, and play continues until players have no cards left.

The Second Popular Card Game

The second most popular game is the poker variation, Texas Hold ‘Em. It’s a game that can be played anywhere, including at online casinos. These also are home to other games like blackjack, the slots, and bingo, pretty much like land-based casinos. Live dealers will deal out cards and interact with players through the game. The main difference is that, when you play live casino games online, you could be anywhere. For instance, you could be chilling at home or travelling somewhere. You can also play in a live online casino at any time, meaning games like Texas Hold-Em can be played 24/7.

The phrase “Hold ‘Em” refers to the players having to keep their initial cards in their hands throughout the game. It got “Texas” in its name because that’s where the game was invented over a century ago, in 1920.

It’s one of the most popular versions of poker. Two cards, known as hole cards, are dealt to players, face down. There are five community cards that are dealt face-up in three stages. Each card has a value, so players have to compete to make the most of their hands. Winners typically get chips, so the person with the most chips tends to be considered the winner.

The Third Most Popular Card Game

The third most popular card game, according to this survey is Old Maid. It’s typically a matching game that’s played by 2 or more players and uses all 52 cards. The first thing you do is remove three of the four queens.

The remaining cards in the deck are dealt with amongst all the players, face down. Players place pairs in their hands, face-up. The player to the left of the dealer picks one of the dealer’s remaining cards to add to their own hand. If they get a pair, they put it down with the others, face-up.

The process of selecting a card from another player goes on until no pairs can be made. The purpose is to match up all of your cards, without getting the old maid, which is the only Queen, by the end of the game.

Card games are a constant favorite in homes around the world, especially in America. There are many games that can be played with a simple deck, and even online. Knowing the basic rules of any game means that players get to understand the fundamentals of how to play any variations.
