A Buffalo sewer worker is shot and two others are fighting for their lives after they were attacked in their vehicle on southbound I-190.
At least two of the victims were reportedly in a Buffalo Sewer Authority truck at the time of the fatal shooting.
The vehicle was shot at at least eight times – including some bullets that apparently penetrated the windshield and side window.
According to a statement from Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, one man died from his injuries while the other two were treated at Erie County Medical Center.
According to police, one of the victims is in stable condition while the condition of the second victim is in critical condition.

All three victims were city workers. Their names have not yet been released to the public.
“It is with a broken heart that I announce today that three of our hard-working Buffalo Sewer Authority employees were shot and killed on the job. “One of the gunshot victims unfortunately died from his injuries,” Brown wrote on Facebook Thursday.
“The other two are being treated at Erie County Medical Center.” I will provide further updates as we learn more about what happened. Thank you for keeping these workers and their families in your thoughts and prayers.”
The New York State Thruway Authority announced the closure of all lanes on southbound I-190 between Exit 9 and Exit 8 around noon, but reopened the lanes around 3:13 p.m.

The New York State Thruway Authority announced the closure of all lanes on southbound I-190 between Exit 9 and Exit 8 around noon, but reopened the lanes around 3:13 p.m
“Motorists should expect delays and may wish to use alternative routes.” All southbound traffic will be detoured from Exit 11 on the Scajaquada Expressway (NY Route 198).

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a statement about the shooting after a news conference Thursday afternoon.
“I have been informed of the shooting that occurred this morning on the Thruway near downtown Buffalo and have directed the New York State Police and the Thruway Authority to cooperate with local law enforcement to provide the necessary assistance as the investigation continues to provide support.”
“State Police have confirmed that one life has already been lost, and I join all New Yorkers in praying for our first responders and those in danger.”
“While the investigation continues, all southbound lanes in the area are closed and traffic is being diverted away from the scene. “I urge all New Yorkers to remain cautious and follow the guidance of first responders and local law enforcement officers who are committed to keeping New Yorkers safe.”
