A bus carrying dozens of migrants, including children from Nicaragua, arrives in front of Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington DC: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has sent 8,400 to the capital since April

  • States like Texas and Arizona have sent thousands of migrants north
  • Texas Governor Greg Abbot alone has sent more than 8,400 to Washington DC
  • The bus came from Texas, according to NBC reporters who filmed the scene

A bus carrying dozens of migrants from Nicaragua has arrived in front of Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington DC.

According to NBC News reporter Gary Grumbach, the bus came from Texas. Footage shot at the scene showed men, women and small children climbing down the bus steps and carrying their belongings.

They were then shown boarding white vans for the next leg of their journey.

Grumbach wrote on Twitter that the migrants were immediately met by volunteers from the humanitarian nonprofit group SAMU First Response, who saw people’s needs before helping them to their next destination.

“Migrants arriving today were immediately met by SAMU First Response volunteers who analyzed their needs and travel plans before loading them into vans that took them to their organization’s rest break to help them plan next steps,” said he.

In the NBC reporter’s clip, a volunteer can be seen at the foot of the steps leading down from the carriage, guiding migrants as they arrive at night.

Some can be seen wrapped in blankets as they disembark, leading their children by the hand and carrying stuffed animals.

The arrival comes after the governors of states like Texas and Arizona sent thousands of migrants to the east coast in recent months.

According to the Texas governor’s website, Governor Greg Abbott has sent more than 8,400 migrants to Washington DC and another 5,000 to New York and Chicago since April — many of whom have ended up in homeless shelters or on the streets.
