An oil leak is believed to have started a fire, which then spread to other cars nearby. However, this has not yet been confirmed by local police.

In a desperate attempt to contain the raging fire, locals tried to pull stranded cars to safety.

You can hear the screams and cries of locals trying to find their loved ones and warning others to stay away from them.

Trucks and vans honked as oncoming traffic approached the tragic accident, unaware of the mass devastation and serious danger.

Not much could be seen near the fire as a blanket of smoke covered the street as people tried to escape.

Images posted on social media showed an overturned truck and a bus destroyed by fire, while long queues formed on the streets.

According to local media, it is suspected that the tragic accident was caused by an oil leak from a car in the Beheira region.

“A horrific collision on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road near Wadi al-Natroun resulted in the deaths of 35 people, at least 18 of whom suffered burns, and the injuries of 53 others,” Al Ahram said.
