Firefighters battle a ‘big fire’ that has broken out near an arms factory in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze at 21:12 last night, which grew to nine crews from three boroughs as the blaze continued throughout the evening.

The fire started at PW Defense in Wilne Mill, Draycott, which describes itself as a UK-based manufacturer of military pyrotechnics.

Local residents living near the “fireworks factory” have been asked to keep windows and doors closed as the fire burns.

PW Defense is owned by WescomDefence, a supplier to the UK MoD and NATO allies.

A fire service spokesman said today: “A fire crew remains on site to search for hot spots at the scene of the fire in Wilne Road, Draycott.

“A joint fire investigation with Derbyshire Police will begin this morning.”
