A member of the Arizona School Board releases a science curriculum designed to teach kids sex isn’t binary

A member of the Arizona school board has revealed that one of the state’s largest school districts is considering using a textbook that teaches sex is not binary.

Heather Rooks, recently elected secretary of the Peoria Unified School District Board of Education, announced Jan. 20 that the district is considering using a textbook that claims there is “many variations” in gender.

The Savvas textbook also appears to touch on issues related to mRNA vaccines and stem cell research.

It has not yet been approved for use at Peoria High School, but the board will vote on using it or two more at a May meeting.

DailyMail.com has reached out to both Rooks and the Peoria Unified School District for comment.

Rooks, a mother of five who ran a parent rights campaign for the Peoria school board, posted photos from the woke textbook to her personal Facebook on Jan. 20.

“I want parents to understand what’s coming: the introduction of science and math curricula is coming [the] Peoria Unified School District.

‘There are various companies at the district office for reading through textbooks and online resources.’

Rooks included photos showing the textbook, produced by the Savvas Company and written by biologists Ken Miller and Joe Levine, rejects the idea of biological sex.

“The biochemical, physiological and anatomical traits associated with ‘males’ and ‘females’ turn out to be more complex than previously thought, as many genes are involved in their development,” reads a passage from the textbook.

“We now know that sex is not a binary state with only two defined outcomes,” it says. “Due to the complexity of the genes and proteins involved in sex determination, there are many variations.

“Some individuals are born with intersex (“intersex”) traits, or even with anatomical traits that are inconsistent with a person’s sense of their own gender (“transgender” individuals),” explains the woke textbook.

It concludes: “Sex determination is an active area of research that should lead to a more sophisticated understanding in the years to come.”

The district says its biology program is

The district says its biology program is “a research-based course that examines how life is organized into systems and cycles.”

Parents responded to Rooks’ post by saying they don’t want the textbook used in the district, and one mom wrote, “I’m so thankful that so many parents are paying attention. It’s getting harder and harder to find a curriculum that doesn’t include all this propaganda. ‘

Another said she’s glad she pulled her kids out of the public school district, saying, “I’m so sick of indoctrination but I’m told we parents overreact,” while a father said the textbook was more likely a text-book of the social sciences than a text-book of biology.

And speaking to FOX News, Rooks said she was shocked that the proposed curriculum failed to address the reality of biological sex.

“I mean, we’re talking about children here,” she said. “It’s not adults who make adult decisions. These are children, so their minds aren’t fully developed yet.’

“I just don’t think it should be in front of the kids.”

Savva Learning Company advertises it as a “mixed print and digital curriculum.” [that] immerses students in biological research.

“Students think, research and talk about biology,” says the publisher’s website. “They interact with natural phenomena through problem-based learning, research, and laboratory experiments.”

And in a video about the new curriculum, author Ken Miller says, “One of the coolest things about biology is that it’s a science that’s always changing, always reinventing itself, and we’ve incorporated that into our program.

“The fact that biology is a dynamic science that will continue to change is something that excites students and gets them excited about the field.”

The Peoria School District has not yet commented on the suggestion to use the book, and its website says only that biology class is “an inquiry-based course that examines how life is organized into systems and cycles. Topics include: life processes, cell genetics, natural selection and ecology.’
