A popular young hairstylist who mysteriously disappeared while out with friends has not been seen or heard from for a week before a disturbing and “strange” Instagram post was shared two days later.
Dakota Lee Nagel, 24, left her home in Doncaster, north east Melbourne, at 2am on January 8 to visit several clubs and bars in Prahran and South Yarra with her friends.
She left her friends the following Sunday afternoon and has not had contact with friends or family since.
A police investigation was launched three days later on Wednesday when her mother reported her missing.
Her distraught loved ones have desperately asked the public for help, saying her disappearance was uncharacteristic as she was about to become an aunt for the first time.
Adding to the heartache is a recent chilling Instagram post, uploaded to Ms Nagel’s hair extensions shop Instagram page.
The post features her family’s dog who passed away Tuesday January 10, two days after she was last seen or heard from.

A photo of Ms Nagel’s deceased family dog, posted to her business Instagram on Tuesday, has sparked concern from family and friends
No caption was added to her iPhone’s lock screen photo, causing alarm among friends and family.
The chilling post was inundated with messages from Ms Nagel’s worried friends asking her to come home.
“Go home safely, daks, everyone wants to know you’re okay. You are loved by so many,” one wrote.
Another friend added, “Hope you’re safe Dakota. I have reported this picture to detectives so hopefully they can trace back to where it was posted from.’
One follower suggested the post looked like a screenshot of a locked phone’s wallpaper.
One of Ms Nagel’s friends replied: “Yes it is significant because she has been missing since the 8th and this is dated the 10th.”
Her distraught family say detectives are investigating the Instagram post.

Friends have commented on Ms Nagel’s latest post and asked her to come home safe and sound
The last post was uploaded and dated on Tuesday January 10th, two days after Dakota Nagel was last seen or heard from.
Friends, family and police are very concerned about Ms. Nagel, whose disappearance is believed to be atypical.
“Our family is worried sick and their chubby fur babies are in despair. She wouldn’t have left her alone for so long,” her aunt Anne-Maree Key wrote on Friday.
“Her fur babies are her life and mean as much to her as ours. She’s also going to be an aunt soon and is so excited that there’s no way she’d pass it up.
“It’s out of character for her not to contact anyone.”
A cousin added: “Please pray for her safe return home.”
Before starting her business, Ms Nagel previously worked as a bouncer at Area, a popular nightclub on the Mornington Peninsula, which also issued a desperate request on Sunday
“Our beloved Dakota is missing. Everyone who went to the area in our early days was familiar with her as she was our bouncer for almost two years,” the venue wrote
“If anyone has information about her whereabouts, please contact the police! We love you Dak, please come home.’

On Sunday, a week after the hairdresser disappeared without a trace, the Missing Command finally launched a public appeal.
“She has a large circle of friends and often visits licensed venues in the Prahran area,” police said.
“Sometimes friends don’t hear from her for a day or two, but it’s unusual that she hasn’t contacted anyone for so long.”
Ms Nagel was last seen last Sunday in a bright pink crop top with a Playboy bunny logo on the front, but is believed to have changed since that time.
Police say she has been in the Prahran, South Yarra, CBD and Southbank areas since January 8.
Ms. Nagel is 157 cm tall, has a petite build and has blond hair and blue-grey eyes.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
