A seven-bed Italian mansion in rural Cornwall is going on the market for almost £2million

A magnificent home offering a slice of Italian countryside living in Cornwall has hit the market for £1.195million.

The Italian Pavilion is part of a listed Neo-Palladian mansion.

The seven bedroom house forms part of Tehidy Park, a 42 acre estate near Camborne that was redeveloped into 52 houses some 25 years ago.

Estate agent Lillicrap Chilcott said the sale was an opportunity “quite unlike any other house currently for sale in Cornwall and perhaps the South West of England”.

Tehidy Park is more than 700 years old and spent most of its time as the home of the Basset family, a well-known landowning and tin mining family referenced in the BBC’s Poldark series.

The earliest estate was demolished by Cornish rebels in the late 15th century and the existing manor house was built in 1734.

The Basset family left in 1915 and sold Tehidy Park in 1916. The majority was bought by a London syndicate who offered the mansion and grounds as a hospital and it remained in use as a hospital until it was sold for redevelopment in the 1990s.

The annex, which has its own pedestrian and vehicle entrance, has an open plan 34ft kitchen/dining/living room that occupies the entire ground floor and two bedrooms each with their own bathroom upstairs.

Outside the property is a private 25 x 14 meter entertaining terrace overlooking the beautiful Italian style sunken garden for the use of all residents.

It also has an extensive basement and basement area.

The Italian Pavilion also has access to the shared 42 acres of parkland and the property is adjacent to the Tehidy Park and Tehidy Woods Golf Course and Country Club with hiking and biking trails.

Mark Bracey of Lillicrap Chilcott said: “We have sold many properties within the Tehidy Park estate in our 20+ years as an agency.

“There are some modern buildings and some older ones, but the Italian Pavilion is just completely different proportions and dimensions than anything else there.

“The main reception area is amazing with a ceiling height of over 20 feet and these incredible floor to ceiling arched windows.

“It’s quite dramatic and unlike any other property on the estate.

“The house makes a very stately impression. You get all the benefits of the building’s aesthetics and stature, but without the downsides of caring for a 42-acre estate.’
