A 3-year-old girl dies after being trapped in a washing machine: A French father’s horrific discovery while searching for his daughter
- Investigations into the cause of death began in Paris on Friday
- Prosecutors have not confirmed a report that she was found alive
- The father and another family member are said to have made the discovery around 10:30 p.m
Paris authorities launched an investigation on Friday into the death of a three-year-old girl found in the washing machine at her family’s home.
The child was discovered on Thursday evening in the north-east of Paris, the capital’s public prosecutor said.
The drama happened after the father had dinner with his 37-year-old wife and one of their other children, Le Parisien reports.
By the end of the meal, the parents were worried about the girl’s absence, she added.

An investigation into the cause of death began on Friday after the child was discovered in northeast Paris on Thursday night, the capital’s prosecutor said
The whole family then went to look for her, inside and outside the apartment, and asked the neighbors for help.
The girl had turned three less than a week ago, according to the publication, adding that the discovery was made around 10:30 p.m. at the apartment in Paris’ 20th arrondissement.
According to Le Parisien, after they found the daughter, the father immediately called the emergency services for medical assistance, who said the child was already in critical condition when she was rescued.
She was pronounced dead shortly after 11:30 p.m., the newspaper reported.
According to the 48-year-old father, the door of the washing machine was closed when family members found it.
Initial details suggest it could be linked to asphyxiation and there were no signs of violence on her body, according to reports.
The autopsy hasn’t taken place yet.

A source said the parents have five children, including the deceased.
“The eldest is 18 years old, then there are the sons between 7 and 16 years old, and finally the victim,” they added, noting that the parents were also unaware of what their other four children were doing during dinner.
A special unit for the protection of minors is leading the investigation.
In July, a seven-year-old boy was found dead in a washing machine in Spring, Texas, just hours after his parents reported him missing.
Around 5:20 a.m., Troy Khoeler’s parents filed a missing persons report with police, Lt. Robert Minchew of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
When police arrived at the home of Jermaine Thomas and Tiffany Thomas, the couple said the boy had been missing since around 4am.
After the parents took part in a brief interview for the missing persons report, deputies found “signs” suggesting that they should search the entire house for the boy.
Then they discovered his body in the washing machine in the garage.
Jermaine Thomas was charged with capital murder and Tiffany Thomas with child injury by omission.
