A woman’s body is found in Muswellbrook

A woman’s body has been found in the coal mining town of Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley region, about three hours northwest of Sydney.

NSW Police launched a critical incident investigation into her death on Tuesday morning after the body was found during a welfare check.

A crime scene was established at the Sydney Street address and an investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

Strike Force Llangollen is carrying out the investigation and the State Crime Command Homicide Squad has arrived at the scene.

A Port Stephens-Hunter Police District Critical Incident Team will investigate any other circumstances surrounding the incident.

The woman has not been officially identified but is believed to be in her 60s.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
