Adorable girl, 6, ignores the finish line and the cheering crowd after a 10m sprint – before accidentally running a full 400m lap

A six-year-old girl got the crowd cheering as she completed a 10m sprint – only to adorably forget to stop at the finish line and instead complete a full 400m loop of the course.

But after crossing the finish line and seeing she was in the lead, Edie was determined to keep going – eventually running 400m around the track.

In the cute clip, Edie, wearing a plaid dress, is cheered on by viewers at the August 25 event.

The proud mother-of-two, Dawn, 47, said she thinks Edie enjoyed being in the spotlight and making people smile.

Counselor Dawn said: “Edie kept asking me ‘do I have to run’ and I told her no but as soon as they announced it she was right up there.

“After she crossed the finish line she looked back and saw she was in the lead so she just kept going, she was so determined.

“Everyone was cheering and clapping for her, she loved being in the spotlight I think and seeing people smile. When she was done, she said, “I’ve never received such a loud round of applause.”

Dawn continued: “She loved everyone’s reaction to the video, it was so amazing to see how people took it. It was nice for people to see her determination and spirit.

“I’m so proud of her, it gave her so much confidence. Everyone calls her Speedy Edie now.”
