Nathan Cleary played the supportive boyfriend as the NRL superstar cheered on his new girlfriend Mary Fowler during the Matildas’ clash with Taiwan.
Fowler had the wind in her sails after going public on an intimate date in a Perth park with Cleary, 25, on Wednesday and was Australia’s biggest threat in a first half that ended goalless.
After a half-time speech from Tony Gustavsson, Fowler returned to the pitch and saw Cleary’s face on the big screen as the Penrith hero chatted to friends before the start of the second half at HBF Park.
A wide smile spread across her face as she laughed with her teammates, clearly pleased to see her new friend present.
That confidence boost certainly served its purpose as Fowler scored the goal early in the second half to put the Matildas ahead against their rivals.
