Akali changes could wait until League of Legends Patch 9.3

Akali changes may not come until League of Legends Patch 9.3, as explained by Riot Games’ Andrei “Meddler” van Roon on Wednesday.

Meddler posted a dev blog on the League of Legends forums on Thursday discussing some of the potential changes in upcoming patches, namely version 9.2 and 9.3. Meddler discusses upcoming changes to champions, loading screens, and items.

The main topic of conversation has been nerfs targeting champions that are currently considered too impactful compared to their competition. Though some champions were targeted by the nerf hammer in patch 9.2, Meddler explains that changes to some of the more controversial champions (like Akali, Camille, and Irelia) will likely have to wait until patch 9.3, as more testing is needed.

Meddler didn’t elaborate on Akali other than saying she “needs more time.” Irelia, meanwhile, expects changes beyond those in patch 9.2 that should give her more power in longer fights, as opposed to her current propensity for short bursts of combat.

Meddler spoke at length about potential changes to Camille’s role as a jungler, specifically her Hookshot (E) ability to stun monsters and whether that crowd control ability should be removed. However, Meddler expressed a desire to not see Camille forced out of the jungler position entirely, but that does imply a desire for the champion to remain a flexible choice.

Other topics of discussion included Dr. Mundo and Shen as beneficiaries of the Sunfire cloak changes in patch 9.2, and a wait-and-see approach to potential changes to Viktor and Zoe based on item nerfs and the Ignite spell in 9.2

Meddler also talked about expected changes to loading screens, including an overhauled layout, rank changes for 2019, and performance improvements. These changes are expected to be released in League of Legends Patch 9.2, although other planned features (like text chat and canned voice chat during the loading screen) will take longer.

Likewise, the critical item changes are expected to be in patch 9.3 or later, not patch 9.2.

Meddler advises that these are not specific changes and are subject to change.
