Sex Scandals Minister Alan Tudge resigns as MP saying he wants to be a ‘better father’ and reveals his teenage daughters faced death threats.
The former cabinet minister, 51, will step down as a federal member for Aston’s seat in far east Melbourne, which will trigger a by-election and pave the way for a possible return to politics for former Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.
“The decision was not easy for me, but it is necessary for my health and for my family, among other things. I certainly didn’t take this decision lightly,” he told parliament on Thursday.
“My daughters, who are 18 and 16, nothing but their father is gone.
“They have had to endure things no teenager should have, including death threats, the most recent of which was last week.

“My son is a little younger, but I want to be a good father to him too,” he added.
“While this profession can be unforgiving at times, serving as an MP has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”
Tudge’s career has been plagued by scandals in recent years, most notably his affair with his former publicist Rachelle Miller, who also accused him of abuse.
He was also faced with questions about the controversial Robodebt scheme at the current Royal Commission.
The Centrelink system used an automated system to illegally issue bogus debt to hundreds of thousands of welfare recipients.

The Liberal politician has held a number of offices during his political career under the Morrison and Turnbull governments, including education, social affairs and citizenship, and multicultural affairs.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the couple had “political differences” but thanked him for his service.
“I thank him for the sacrifices he has made to serve in this House and I say on behalf of the Government that I respect the decision he made and I respect the manner in which it was made became.”
The vacancy could mean Josh Frydenberg making a surprise return to politics.
Political insiders believe the former treasurer will make a bid for the seat, although some early reports also suggested he won’t be running at Aston.
Mr Frydenberg lost the seat of Kooyong – an electorate held by the Liberal Party since Federation – to Independent MP Monique Ryan in last year’s federal election.
