Altona Beach: Woman’s body is found on Melbourne beach

A woman’s body has been found on a popular Melbourne beach.

Beachgoers came across the grim discovery just after 8.30am on Monday at Altona Beach near Esplanade and Millers Rd.

The woman has yet to be officially identified.

Her body was reportedly found at the rocky end of the beach.

Police remain on the beach where a crime scene has been set up.

“The matter is not being treated as suspicious at this time,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

An investigation into the woman’s cause of death is currently underway.

“Police, SES and crime scene investigators were present and the common path was blocked,” wrote a shocked local on X.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner

Anyone with information is urged to contact police or crime investigators.

Altona Beach is known for its calm waters and 500m long pier in Melbourne’s southwest.
