Angel Lynn’s emotional mother reveals her paralyzed daughter’s first word was “mama” after she suffered brain damage in a horrific kidnapping by a jealous ex-boyfriend – and feared she would never be able to speak again

Angel Lynn’s mother has revealed her paralyzed daughter’s first word was “mama” after she suffered brain damage in a horrific kidnapping by her jealous ex-boyfriend.

Angel, 22, was bundled into the back of a moving van in Rothley, Leicestershire, in September 2020 by her ex Chay Bowskill, then 20.

She suffered catastrophic brain injuries when she fell headfirst from the vehicle at 60mph on the A6 near Loughborough.

Her mother Nikki Lynn told Good Morning Britain today that she feared her daughter would “never speak again” after the tragedy, before Angel suddenly said the word “mum”.

“She said it the first time and I just couldn’t believe it.” I thought I had to capture it on camera because sometimes she doesn’t always do things a second time. “I asked her to do it again and she did it right away,” Nikki said.

‘I was in the hospital. I just came in and then she moaned. It started with me saying, “Angel, you know, if you’re making noises like that, you must be able to say something.”

“That’s when I started making noises myself and it just came out.” I had no warning or anything […] because I thought she would never speak again. You don’t like getting your hopes up.’

Angel’s parents also spoke about their daughter’s behavioral changes after she began a relationship with Bowskill.

‘Clothing. Your appearance. Angel used to wear a lot of skinny jeans. “She had a beautiful figure,” Nikki said.

“This included wearing tracksuits and hoodies and not wearing make-up,” said Paddy Lynn, Angel’s father.

“She didn’t have her hair down like it used to – it was tied up in a bun.”

Nikki and Patrick were told their daughter would not survive the tragedy.

CCTV captured the moment Angel was forced into a van by Bowskill and his accomplice Rocco Sansome in Rothley, Leicestershire, in September 2020 following an argument.

She then fell from the vehicle driven by Sansome at a speed of 60mph before being found by the horrified public.

Bowskill was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison earlier this year, while Sansome received 21 months. Bowskill’s sentence was later increased to 12 years, but Sansome’s sentence remained unchanged.

Angel’s first word since the accident comes months after the release of heartbreaking footage showing the young woman signing “I love you too” to her mother in a Channel 4 documentary about the tragedy.

In the film, she is seen in her mobility chair as Nikki tenderly holds her hand and tells her, “You’ll make it, you know that.” “You’ve come so far in the last year.”

And when her mother tells her “I love you,” Angel points to her eye, her heart, then her parents before making the number two with her fingers to reciprocate.

Nikki replies to her, “I know you do, baby.”

More heartbreaking footage showed the bubbly Angel singing, dancing and laughing with her friends before meeting her controlling boyfriend who kidnapped her and changed her life forever.

Her parents told how things went downhill when she met the unemployed Bowskill, who took away her independence.

“Angel always wanted to be a forensic scientist and work for the police, she was very ambitious,” said her father Paddy. “But when she met Chay, all her ambitions went down the drain.”

In the documentary The Kidnap of Angel Lynn, Angel’s mother Nikki and cousin Fahren describe an “amazing” previous relationship Angel had, but when it ended, Angel left the friendship group.

When she started getting “back out there,” she met Chay, “which changed her life,” Nikki said.

“I didn’t really like Chay from the start. “He didn’t have a job, Angel always had a job,” said Paddy, Angel’s father.

“Angel always acted like she wasn’t dating him, that they were just friends.”

“With her first boyfriend, she never kept anything secret from us, we knew where she was.” But when she met Chay, everything changed. She always told lies, so she must have been ashamed of him, probably because he wasn’t a good boy.

“It broke my heart because me and Angel have always been close.” When we found out we were having a girl, I said we’d call her “Angel” – and she’s always been my angel. She was always daddy’s daughter.’

Paddy described Angel as always being “funny” and “adventurous”.

But Nikki said she was told her daughter’s boyfriend “was a bad boyfriend and stole cars and motorbikes”.

Nikki revealed that Angel was doing a college civil service course and had landed a cheap place on a trip – but turned down the opportunity to stay at Bowskill.

“Wherever Chay went, Angel went,” Nikki said, adding that they used to go from “hotel to hotel.”

Angel’s mother revealed that she had a tattoo of the name Chay on her ankle.

“She wanted both excitement and love, and that’s probably what she expected at the beginning,” Nikki said.

But she revealed she had been told Bowskill “used to steal cars – and ended up getting caught”.
