Anthony Albanese opens the floodgates for 195,000 new migrants

Anthony Albanese is opening the floodgates and will allow 195,000 new migrants to move permanently to Australia this year to help tackle the jobs crisis

Anthony Albanese government will increase permanent migration intake from 160,000 to 195,000 for 2022-23.

Home Secretary Clare O’Neil says the boost includes an additional 9,000 places for regional Australia.

“COVID is giving us an opportunity on a platter to reform our immigration system that we will never get back, and I want us to seize it,” she told attendees at today’s Jobs and Skills Summit.

“The skills shortage in our country is real. And this is not an issue that only affects businesses and organisations, it is an issue that affects the everyday life of every Australian.’

O’Neil said the jobs crisis will not be solved by upskilling and creating jobs for more locals alone, the government’s focus will always be on Australian jobs first.

The number of permanently skilled migrants admitted to Australia has been raised to 195,000 to deal with the jobs crisis.
