Antonio Conte backs Harry Kane to break Tottenham’s all-time goalscoring record

Harry Kane goes into the north London derby just adrift of Jimmy Greaves’ record 266 Tottenham goals.

It has been untouched for more than half a century and such is Kane’s prolific record against Arsenal it would be no surprise if he draws level with legend Greavsie tomorrow.

If not, it’s only a matter of time, according to Spurs manager Antonio Conte.

“He has great numbers and we’re talking about a world-class striker who will break any record,” said the Italian.

“He deserved it. But I always want to emphasize the other aspect, the human aspect, because he’s not just a world-class striker, he’s a good man, a good person and an important reference point for us.

“I am sure that he will break this record. He’s doing something incredible. We try to help him and when he scores he helps us. This exchange of favors is important.’

Kane has scored four goals for Tottenham since returning from the World Cup but failed to score a penalty following his penalty shoot-out in England’s 2-1 quarter-final defeat by France.

“He has already overcome the negative situation,” said Conte, whose side are two points away from the top four.

“He’s got a big, big personality and he knows he’s going to keep scoring and taking penalties.”
