Apex Legends developers have “no plans” to permanently add LTM throwing knives

Respawn Entertainment doesn’t seem to have any plans to make the throwing knife a permanent weapon in Apex Legends.

Since debuting with the Gun Run LTM during the Beast of Prey Collection event, the mode’s exclusive throwing knife-ending game-ending weapon has quickly become a fan favorite among the community. However, it seems that Respawn has no interest in adding it to the game’s default weapon pool just yet.

During a Reddit AMA on Sept. 20, Respawn lead game designer Robert “RoboB0b” West revealed that the developers have “no plans at this time” to make the Throwing Knife available in Apex Legends outside of the Gun Run LTM.

“The throwing knife was designed to be the final weapon in Gun Run, and it’s set to be pretty deadly!” Westen wrote. “Even if we make it an airdrop weapon, it would probably require some modifications considering battle royale.”

When asked what inspired Respawn to design their throwing knife, West explained how it was really easy to tailor it for the new LTM.

“Originally we wanted to end it with melee,” West wrote, “but even if it was lethal melee, it didn’t feel right when combined with Apex’s movement. We wanted something difficult but achievable, with some range but optimal at close range. The throwing knife hit the spot and was prototyped very early in development. /u/RSPN_Jello took the bow star, removed the blast and boosted the initial hit. We loved it immediately and started conceptualizing the final visual design.”

For those hoping Respawn will change his mind soon, West nodded to the fact that the team has made other LTM items like Evo Shields permanent in the past.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we run more BR LTMs that affect base BR in the future,” West wrote.
