At least seven people were injured in an explosion Thursday after a construction crew reportedly ruptured a natural gas line in Wappingers Falls, New York.

The explosion damaged a single-family home, half of which collapsed.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, at least two victims were found in the rubble. Children are reportedly among the injured.

A heavy equipment operator is reportedly trapped in his machine as first responders attempt to reach him.

One of the injured is a state trooper who was one of the first to respond to the scene.

News 12 Westchester reports that witnesses saw a mother and her two children come out of the home “seriously injured.”

The public was asked to avoid the areas of Main Street, Mesier Park, Mill Street and High Street while firefighters work.

Dutchess County Emergency Management said, “Please note that EAST and WEST MAIN ST in the V/Wappingers between SOUTH AVE and DELAVERGNE AVE are CLOSED due to extended fire response to a building collapse. “Please avoid the area until further notice.”

Governor Kathy Hochul issued a statement regarding the incident.

Witnesses reportedly saw a mother and her two children come out of the house “seriously injured.”

She wrote: “I have been notified of the building collapse in Dutchess County and have dispatched State Emergency Medical Services personnel to assist in the relief effort.” “New Yorkers: Please follow the instructions of law enforcement and other first responders concerned with the safety of the people Using community.”

A Central Hudson spokesman said a contractor hit a 3/4-inch gas service line and the excavation caused a fire and explosion, ABC 7 reported.

The explosion occurred on Brick Row at around 12:22 p.m.

Electricity and natural gas services were interrupted in the area at 1:30 p.m.

Governor Hochul added, “I join all New Yorkers in praying for the Village of Wappingers Falls.”

Wappingers Falls is about an hour north of Westchester County.

Investigations are currently underway to find out the cause of the explosion
