Bayern Munich ‘tell Harry Kane not to sign a new Tottenham contract’ with a view to a move next summer

Bayern Munich “tell Harry Kane to hold off on signing a new Tottenham contract”, with Julian Nagelsmann eyeing a potential move for the England captain next summer

  • Bayern Munich bosses hope Harry Kane will not renew his contract with Spurs
  • The England captain is currently on a contract with Tottenham Hotspur until 2024
  • Bayern don’t want the 29-year-old to sign a new contract so they can bid next summer
  • Kane could also choose to stay at Spurs while they rebuild under Antonio Conte

Bayern Munich “wants Harry Kane to delay signing a new deal at Tottenham Hotspur” so they can offer him a transfer to Germany next summer.

Kane’s current Spurs deal runs until 2024 and the London club will be keen to keep the England captain despite ongoing speculation about his future.

But Bayern have said if Kane doesn’t sign an extension they will make an offer next summer – knowing the price will come down as his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has just 12 months left. When the contract expires, Kane would become a free agent the following year.

Christian Falk, head of football at the German newspaper Bild, confirmed the rumors and tweeted: ‘TRUE✅ Bosses at @fcbayern hope Harry Kane doesn’t renew his contract (now until 2024) with @SpursOfficial so they can make an offer for a transfer to Munich in 2023.’

When asked by Sky Germany, Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidzic said: “It’s too early to talk about it.”

It’s not clear what the 29-year-old plans next, whether to stay at Tottenham or take on another challenge elsewhere.

Bayern were interested in Kane as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski this summer but the move didn’t materialize.

Julian Nagelsmann has plenty of attacking players but no outright strikers at the Allianz Arena so Kane would have fit into their plans but whether he is interested in Bundesliga football in 2023 remains to be seen.

One of the criticisms of Kane’s stellar career so far is the lack of serious silverware, and Bayern Munich are a consistent winner at national and European level.

However, Spurs are in the midst of rebuilding and aiming for glory even under Antonio Conte, so Kane could be encouraged to stay here.

When asked last week if now was a good time for Kane to sign a new deal at Spurs, Conte said: “Yes, the perfect time, but you know very well that with a project you create the perfect time.

“If the player also understands that there is a right process, that everyone is going in the same direction, I think that every single player wants to see that.

“And I think Harry sure is happy because he sees that kind of situation.

“There’s a vision, there’s a direction and there’s a unity to try and improve the team, to have the team be at the level of their expectations.”

Kane has scored five goals in six league games in the 2022/23 league season opener before Spurs begin their Champions League pursuit at home to Marseille on Wednesday.

Kane has 188 career goals in the Premier League and has been tipped to equal or even eclipse Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals.
