BBC ax reality show with an impressive star-studded judging line-up after just one series

The BBC has canceled a reality show with an impressive star-studded panel of judges after just one series.
Project Icon will not be returning to the channel, with a spokesperson saying: “There are no immediate plans for an additional series at this time.”
Jordan North hosted the music competition, which was created by 34-year-old singer Jason Derulo.
Derulo, his manager Frank Harris and British singer Becky Hill mentored ten aspiring recording artists who were faced with the challenge of competing for a life-changing prize.
The winner secured a record deal, a collaboration with Jason himself and an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

End: Project Icon will not return to the channel, a spokesperson said: “There are no immediate plans for an additional series at this time.”
A BBC spokesperson told TV Zone: “Project Icon is a bold contemporary music show that has produced some brilliant new talent, including winner Dylan.”
“He’s come all the way from playing in local pubs in Cornwall to recording with Jason Derulo and Frank Harris’ music label in LA to appearing on BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.”
“We are pleased to have been a part of Dylan’s musical journey and wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors.”
“While there are currently no immediate plans for an additional series of Project Icon, we would like to extend our thanks to the entire MultiStory Media and ITV America team, including Jason and Frank, Becky Hill and host Jordan North, for making the series available to some to examine and discover top-class talent.’
Before the series aired in March, the BBC said of the show: “This talent show leaves the glossy studios behind and instead takes artists into the real world of today’s music industry.”
“To find out who has what it takes to make it in the highly competitive world of music, the unsigned artists will compete in a series of industry-inspired challenges.”
“Everything from creating viral social media videos to tricky press interviews and of course the opportunity to perform on some of the UK’s most famous stages.”
Jason previously said of the show: “The world of music has changed and to be a superstar with staying power today takes a lot more than just singing.”

“Project Icon is the first TV show to challenge contestants to all the realistic skills an artist today should have to have a real chance of becoming an icon.”
Becky, who found fame on the first series of The Voice UK, added: “As someone who has experienced a TV talent show first-hand, I know the difficulties and stigma associated with breaking into the music industry grasp.”
“I want to change that narrative for other artists and show them that success in the music industry is about talent, but also and most importantly, hard work.”
“I feel like Project Icon is a boot camp for artists, showing them the beautiful side of this life, but also the actual work that goes into becoming a true icon.” “That’s the training I get wished all those years ago.”
Meanwhile, Jordan added that he was “very excited to be the host” and help “find fresh musical talent” and discover the next big music star.
