Bernardo Silva plans to “hold some strings” to get a Benfica prodigy to move to Man City rather than Man United.
The 19-year-old midfielder has become an important part of Roger Schmidt’s midfield since Enzo Fernandez moved to Chelsea for £105million.
Man United have reportedly been keeping an eye on the youngster on a number of occasions and were recently impressed with the teenager’s performance in Benfica’s 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon.
However, City’s 29-year-old Silva wants to use his influence over his Portuguese team-mate to lure him to the club.
“I am very happy for João and the other children who appear in Benfica’s team and also in the national team,” he said during an appearance at a gala event in Lisbon.

“Joao Neves in the Premier League? I think players with quality can play in any championship. I see that he is very focused on his club, which is the most important thing at the moment, a very young player but with a promising future ahead of him.
“He arrived in the national team, settled in and integrated very well. If the coach thinks so, he is another helper who can help us win the European Championship.
“For City instead of United? If I can, I will ensure that Joao Neves moves to Man City. “I would of course like João to move to City instead of Man United.”
The reigning Premier League champions are said to be convinced of Joao Neves’ potential.
But with Man United captain Bruno Fernandes also reportedly betting on the youngster, there could be a bidding war between the Manchester sides.
