Bethesda reveals Redfall’s grotesque “Bloodbag” enemy

Bethesda has given fans more insight into upcoming co-op FPS Redfall.

Developed by Arkane Studios Austin and published by Bethesda, Redfall is an upcoming co-op FPS that pits players against deadly vampiric enemies. Set in the fictional town of Redfall, Massachusetts, four survivors find themselves trapped by the vampire menace and must pull out all the stops to defeat enemies.

While Redfall isn’t scheduled to release until 2023, Bethesda has shared insights into some of the game’s features, including the variety of enemies players will encounter. A particularly cruel opponent is the Bloodbag.

According to the official Redfall Twitter account, the Bloodbag is an enemy that uses its form to store blood and offer it to vampires. It would “rather die in a bloody explosion than drop a single drop into the hands of the enemy”. Judging from this description, Bloodbags appear to perform an area attack, causing them to explode themselves and damage anyone who stands too close.

Her appearance is also quite disturbing, with large, blood-filled pustules all over her body. A long, puffer-like coat is taped around her, buttoned, and half-draped over ragged clothing.

Working together is the best way to survive whatever Redfall can throw at you. “When you decide to play with friends, sticking together is vital,” explains Co-Creative Director Ricardo Bare. “The heroes are stronger as a group and the vampire threat increases as more players join the game. Running away alone is the quickest way to get caught and killed.”
