‘You got me away from my boyhood club… you ruined careers’: Steven Gerrard’s cousin Bobby Duncan – now in Spain’s third division – takes on agent Saif Rubie over his bitter Liverpool transfer exit saga
Former Liverpool youth star Bobby Duncan has hit out as his former agent Saif Rubie for “putting his career at risk”.
Duncan was a promising young player at Liverpool and a cousin of Reds legend Steven Gerrard, but he controversially left the club in 2019 after Rubie accused the club of “mental bullying”.
A statement, first reported by Sportsmail, also claimed that despite interest from Friorentina and FC Nordsjaelland, Liverpool did not allow Duncan to leave and that the club had “held him against his will and damaged his mental health”.

Rubie helped Duncan make the move to Fiorentina but he struggled to gain a foothold in Serie A
The 21-year-old slammed his former agent on Twitter for “endangering his career”.
The striker joined Fiorentina soon after but has struggled to establish himself in Serie A.
After a stint with Derby, he now plays in the Spanish third division with Real Balompedica Linese.
Despite the allegations he made against Liverpool three years ago, Rubie claimed on TalkSPORT today that he pushed Duncan to stay at the club.
He said: ‘In this particular case, can I tell you something? I actually advised him to stay at Liverpool and you have to understand one thing I wanted to tell you, my job is to do the best for anyone who tells me to help him, be it the player or a Buy club or a sell club.
“In this particular case, you can decide whether to believe me or not, I thought it would be best if he stayed. It wasn’t to be and it ended up getting a little ugly with Liverpool, which is unfortunate.
Rubie recently changed his tune, telling TalkSPORT he “advised Duncan to stay.”
Duncan hit back at his former agent on Twitter today. He said: “I had no decision or statement as you took it upon yourself to jeopardize my career and dissuade a local boy from his youth club and leave me and my family to pick up all the pieces.
“I haven’t spoken once about this top in ‘four years’ as getting my career back on track has been my main priority. But still you think you have the right to mention my name on a live radio show.”
“I should never have put my career in your hands. That’s where I learned my hard lesson. And I just pray that you’ve learned yours, as it might ruin another boy’s career.
