BREAKING: Spain’s ‘Kiss Gate’ federation president Luis Rubiales is being forced out of his job after the Women’s World Cup final scandal – and unpopular winning coach Jorge Vilda could follow

Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation, was ousted for his attacking behavior in the Women’s World Cup final.

Rubiales sparked outrage when he kissed Spain player Jenni Hermoso on the mouth as she accepted her medal after beating England 1-0 in Sydney.

Footage also emerged showing Rubiales grabbing his crotch while standing near Queen Letizia of Spain and her 16-year-old daughter Princess Infanta Sofia.

After initially branding his critics “idiots”, Rubiales finally bowed to mounting pressure and resigned his post to be replaced by Pedro Rocha.

The unpopular Spanish women’s coach Jorge Vilda could also vacate his post, it is said Diario AS.

It was announced on Thursday that FIFA had initiated disciplinary proceedings against the football boss who had remained in office.

Reports surfaced in the Spanish press on Thursday that Rubiales was considering his position after Spain’s acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez demanded an explanation.

Despite his confidence that he could turn things around, Rubiales has now left amid furor over the 46-year-old’s behavior.

However, Rubiales will retain his lucrative role as vice-president of European football’s governing body UEFA, which earns £214,000 a year.

Vilda was closely associated with Rubiales, but he has been accused of creating a controlling environment. Mundo Deportivo reported he forced the players to keep the doors of their rooms open so he could check if they fell asleep.

Vilda is also said to have checked the players’ bags when they returned from shopping trips and demanded that they tell him who they were meeting outside of the team camp.

In 2022, 15 players wrote to the Spanish Football Federation stating that they were not available for selection during Vilda’s tenure.

Footage emerged of Vilda appearing to be touching a member of staff on the chest after Spain scored the winning goal in the final.

Rubiales has been condemned by various organizations in Spanish football, including FUTPRO – the union that represents Hermoso – and the women’s football league Liga F, which lodged a complaint with the president of the country’s sports council [CSD].

Hermoso had declined an invitation to appear in Rubiales’ apology video, though he pleaded, “My position is at stake, do it for my daughters.”

Several clubs including Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad, Osasuna and Getafe had asked him to resign.

The decision comes after an emergency meeting of the Spanish Football Federation on Friday.

FIFA on Thursday opened disciplinary proceedings against Rubiales under article 13 of its code of conduct, which relates to “offensive behavior and breaches of the principles of fair play”.

Earlier in the week, he tried to defuse the situation by releasing an apology video in which he said, “I made a mistake and I have to admit it.” It was not done in bad faith; It was a moment of great emotion.’

Devastating footage then emerged of Rubiales grabbing his crotch during the wild celebrations that celebrated Spain’s win at Australia Stadium.

The Queen of Spain and her daughter were standing in the stands just meters away.

US legend Megan Rapinoe described the moment as “a signal of a deep level of misogyny and sexism” and insisted his kissing of Hermoso was a “physical assault”.

Attacking midfielder Hermoso, who plays for CF Pachuca, admitted she “didn’t like it” as Rubiales grabbed her and hugged her tightly before kissing her on the lips after the game on the ceremonial podium, which he later reluctantly kissed apologized although he initially defended his behavior.

Spanish football boss Miguel Ángel Galán has now filed a complaint with the Madrid Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office, alleging that Rubiales’ actions amounted to sexual assault.

Galan, president of CENAFE – the country’s national school for football coaches – said: “I would like to file a complaint against Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Federation, for committing an alleged crime of sexual assault against the Spanish women’s football team.” Jennifer Hermoso.

“This was an intolerable act of sexist behavior in our sport that could constitute alleged sexual assault.” I therefore request that a complaint be filed.”

Galan had already lodged a written complaint with the Spanish National Sports Council (CSD) and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) itself, with his latest actions following the criminal route.
