Brighton have “received no offers” for Moises Caicedo amid interest from Liverpool and Chelsea

Brighton have ‘not received any offers’ for Moises Caicedo, insists boss Paul Barber – as he jokes £42million for his BOOTS wouldn’t be enough given reported interest from Liverpool and Chelsea

  • Brighton CEO Paul Barber said the club had not received any offers for Moises Caicedo
  • The 21-year-old midfielder has impressed at the Seagulls and Ecuador
  • Liverpool had reportedly made a £62million offer to Caicedo and Chelsea were also interested
  • Caicedo has three years left on his Brighton deal and the club have no plans to sell

According to club CEO Paul Barber, Brighton have not received any offers for Moises Caicedo despite rumors linking their midfielder with Liverpool or Chelsea.

The 21-year-old Caicedo impressed during his international appearances for Ecuador at the 2022 World Cup, as well as during the Seagulls’ stellar start to the current season.

Last month Sportsmail reported that Chelsea and Liverpool were chasing the midfielder and recent claims suggested the Reds had made a formal offer of £62million but had heard nothing from the south coast club.

Despite rumors of a departure, Brighton have yet to receive any offers for Moises Caicedo

But according to CBS Sports football journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter, Barber told him: “I’m pleased to say we didn’t have any [offers for Caicedo]. Maybe they didn’t get my email because I didn’t see it.”

Caicedo, who joined Brighton in February 2021, has three years left on his contract with the Amex. The club had previously hinted they had no plans to sell, although a high asking price would likely encourage them to let the 21-year-old go.

Back in September, Brighton boss Graham Potter said £42million could get Caicedo’s boots – but he has now taken charge of Chelsea, while the midfielder’s appeal has only increased with his appearances under Roberto De Zerbi.

Barber added: “I’m not sure £42m now will even include the boots, maybe just the laces. But joking aside, each player’s value is ultimately determined by the market.

“Graham’s comments were part joke and part serious because Moises was an exceptional player for us. Ever since he came to the Premier League he has continued to develop.

“He’s a young man with a great attitude, a fantastic work ethic and a very nice person off the pitch. So all these things add to the value of a footballer should it come to the point where he is sold.’

Liverpool continue to pursue a number of transfer targets at the moment, having recently bought Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, who will make his FA Cup debut for the Reds on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s alleged hunt for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez has reportedly come to a halt, despite reports the Argentine world champions would break Premier League transfer records with his move.
