A Chicago pizzeria was broken into by a thief looking for a pile of cash, despite a shared sign clearly stating that the entire restaurant is cash-free.
Security cameras captured the entire incident with George’s deep dish being smashed as the burglar broke in through the front door and searched the restaurant looking for money.
Eventually, the crook made it into the office and kitchen before stealing a framed display containing two $20 bills and two $50 bills before running off.

The owner, George Bumbaris, said the display had sentimental value and should never be spent with the frame with “lucky coupons”.
The money consisted of bills signed by family and friends, including the very first $20 the pizzeria ever made.
“For me it was just sentimental. I would never spend that money,” Bumbaris told CBS News. “I was more upset than anything,” he added.

“That’s the last call you want to get in the middle of the night,” he said. ‘I wish you’d read that [cashless] sign before you come in.’ Bumbaris noticed.
Replacing the smashed door cost the entire weekend’s earnings.
Chicago police are now investigating the incident along with a string of other burglaries reported since Christmas. No arrests were made.
Thefts are up 56 percent year-over-year in Chicago, while robberies are up 14 percent. Total crimes increased by 41 percent in 2022, from a total of 47,452 recorded incidents in 2021 to 66,855 the following year.
Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot has come under increasing pressure to fight the crime wave as businesses and businesses continue to shut their doors.
