Larvitar, a second generation Pokémon, was originally released in Pokémon GO on February 16, 2017 along with other Pokémon by Jhoto.
Shiny Pokémon have often been viewed as commodities in the main series Pokémon games, with “shiny-hunting” being a common activity for many players. So when Shiny Pokémon become available in spin-off games like Pokémon GO, excitement for Pokémon fans increases.
Players have had the opportunity to encounter the shiny form of Larvitar for about three years, but this shiny form has proven elusive.
Although it came to Pokémon GO in 2017, Larvitar’s shiny form wasn’t available until June of the following year. With the release of Shiny Larvitar in Pokémon GO in 2018. Although rare, since then players have had the opportunity to encounter this Pokémon’s Shiny form while playing.
In case players haven’t had a chance to find a shiny form of this Rock- and Ground-type Pokemon yet, they might be in luck at the upcoming Community Day Classic.
Not only does Community Day increase the likelihood of finding Larvitar in general, it also increases the chances of finding a shiny form of the Pokemon.
The glossy form of Larvitar differs from the original form in having a lime green exterior with a pinkish-purple belly in contrast to the original.
Larvitar will be the featured Pokémon for the Community Day Classic event on January 21, taking place from 2pm to 5pm local time.
