Can Warzone 1 still be played in 2023?

It’s no surprise that Warzone 2 has completely captured players’ attention, but can you still play the original Warzone in 2023?

The original Warzone was first released in 2020 and, after a host of updates, changes and more, received a sequel in 2022 tied to the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. But Warzone 2 had a mixed reception as players didn’t feel quite the same appeal as they did in Warzone 1.

Perhaps it’s the maps that don’t do Verdansk, Rebirth Island or Fortune’s Keep justice, although the first of the three was later replaced by the polarizing Caldera.

So if you’re just not happy with Warzone 2 and want to go back to what you know, is it still possible to play Warzone 1 in 2023?

Yes, Warzone 1 can still be played, albeit under a different name. The original has been renamed Warzone Caldera and is still playable, but it’s not quite the same as it used to be.

For starters, Caldera is the only map available to play. And if you didn’t like the card during its heyday, you probably won’t care now. There are no more map playlists, so Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep will not be available to choose from.

It’s also worth noting that the player count will likely be significantly lower. With all the attention being paid to Warzone 2, there is no Battle Pass, shop content, or additional updates in Warzone Caldera. Of course, that will put some players off.

But if you just want a few games on the old Caldera map sprinkled with a bit of nostalgia, then Warzone Caldera will scratch that itch.
