Canadian punk rock guitarist Gord Lewis has been found dead at his Ontario home after allegedly being murdered by his 41-year-old son.

Gord, 65, co-founder of punk rock band Teenage Head, was found dead at his home in Hamilton, Ontario by police officers on Sunday.

His son Jonathon Lewis, 41, has since been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Police said Gord was dead two or three days before officers found him because they could not initially identify him due to the body’s “degree of decomposition,” reports CBC Hamilton.

Hamilton Detective Sara Beck said police visited Gord’s home after being told a series of emails containing information about a dead person had been sent to a range of outlets.

The emails were sent to local news outlet CBC Hamilton by Jonathon Lewis on Sunday, explaining that his father was dead, according to the site.

Gord founded Teenage Head with his bandmates Frankie Venom, Steve Mahon and Nick Stipanitz, who died in 2008. The band rose to fame in Canada in the early 1980s.

Gord’s brother Brian told CBC that the family was “devastated and conflicted” by his death.

“It’s the loss of a beloved brother and it’s a very complicated situation,” he said. Brian described Gord as “gentle, artistic, musically inspirational, loving and faithful”.

Police said it appeared Gord and Jonathon lived together.

“Jonathon was arrested shortly after police arrived at the apartment building,” Beck said, adding that he lived in the apartment but it belonged to Gord.

Beck said the incident was “isolated” and police were not looking for other suspects, the Hamilton Spectator reports.

Beck said police discovered Lewis’ body at his home and said he had “foul play-related injuries”.

“We continue to search for witnesses and review video in the area,” added Beck.

Beck said police believe they know the victim’s identity, but they need to do an autopsy for “positive confirmation” because of the “degree of decomposition.”

Gord’s death was confirmed on Monday by the band, who said they were “heartbroken”.
