U.S. Capitol Police and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms on Friday notified members of Congress of expected demonstrations across the country related to former President Trump’s impeachment.

“While law enforcement is not pursuing any specific, credible threats against the Capitol or state offices, there is potential for demonstration activity,” law enforcement officials wrote in a note to Senate staffers.

In anticipation, Capitol Police will increase their presence around Capitol Hill and continue to monitor for any impact.

Anti-Trump protesters have gathered in front of Trump Tower in Manhattan to celebrate the impeachment. They held up protest signs that read, “Lock him up,” a nod to his supporters’ old chants about Hillary Clinton.

Supporters of former President Trump also gathered outside his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

The charges against him are the first time a US President has been prosecuted. Trump and his lawyers say it’s a political witch hunt designed to hurt his chances in the 2024 election.

At least one member of the House of Representatives – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene – has announced that she will be in New York City on Tuesday to protest the impeachment and support the former president.

The 76-year-old ex-president was told he must surrender Tuesday or face arrest and extradition to New York.

It’s unclear what charges will be brought against the former president, but it’s believed to be the money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels and another woman.

The exact charges against Trump will be known when the indictment is unsealed, which is expected to happen next week.

They are believed to be in connection with the $130,000 payment in 2016 by his former attorney Michael Cohen to Daniels, who claims to have slept with Trump in 2005.

Trump maintains his innocence and insists he had nothing to do with it.

Trump warned last week that there could be “death and destruction” on the charges when he called Alvin Bragg a “degenerate psychopath.”

“What kind of person can accuse another person, in this case a former President of the United States, who received more votes than any sitting President in history, and front runner (by far!) for the Republican Party nomination, of a crime when all know that NO crime was committed, and also know that potential death and destruction from such a false accusation could be catastrophic for our country?
