Cate Blanchett revealed to guests at the 34th annual Palm Springs Film Festival on Thursday that Jamie Lee Curtis got out in her “bras and knickers” before carpooling to the event, resulting in the two stars attending the ceremony ” almost” missed.
The Oscar winner, 53, told the audience the hilarious story during her acceptance speech as she received the Desert Palm Achievement Award, presented to her by 64-year-old Curtis.
The talented star, who recently stopped by the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Wednesday, also took to the star-studded stage to present an award to Viola Davis.

After the Halloween actress announced the recipient of the Desert Palm Achievement Award in the actress category, Cate expressed her gratitude and recalled why she almost didn’t attend the festival.
The Carol actress explained that both she and Jamie had “this long conversation” before the awards ceremony because the True Lies star was “appalled” by Cate’s packing, according to Variety.
She went on to say it was: “A discussion about whether I should put on pajamas before I leave tonight. Meanwhile she tells me what to wear and she comes out in her bra and panties.”
“That’s why we almost missed today’s event,” concluded the Lord of the Rings graduate jokingly.
The two friends also tried to decide who could drive the best, with Cate confidently proclaiming, “I’m the better driver… It’s a fact.”

Cate received the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her performance in the 2022 drama Tár.
The premise of the critically acclaimed feature film reads, according to an IMDB summary: “Lydia Tár, widely regarded as one of the greatest living composers and conductors and the first-ever female leader of a major German orchestra”.
In a press release, festival chairman Harold Matzner said, “Cate Blanchett is truly one of the finest actresses of this generation, whose performances are always exceptional, regardless of the role.”
He further explained, “In her latest film, Tár, Cate perfectly embodies Lydia Tár as an orchestra conductor at the peak of her career whose life begins to unravel,” adding, “There is no one better suited for the role.”
The Golden Globe winner previously received the award in 2016 for her performance in Carol and also in the film Truth.

Cate recounted the hilarious exchange between her and Jamie to the audience earlier in the evening and returned to the lighted stage to present Viola Davis with the Chairman’s Award for her work on The Woman King.
When announcing the recipient, the actress mentioned that she wanted an opportunity to be cast alongside Davis in the near future.
“There are some actors you would like to be, there are some actors you would like to know and some you would like to work with and learn from, hoping that some of the magical wisdom and stardust will come on.” It rubs off,” the Australian-native star said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Viola Davis is all three,” Cate said, then added a dash of humor to the short speech. “Make no mistake, this isn’t actually a speech, it’s an audition of sorts…”

Cate and Jamie recently teamed up to star in the upcoming sci-fi title Borderlands, based on the video game of the same name.
According to IMDB, the film’s premise is “set on the abandoned fictional planet Pandora, where humans search for a mysterious relic.”
The upcoming movie will be directed by filmmaker Eli Roth who is known for directing other projects like Cabin Fever and Hostel.
Other stars cast in the film, which is currently in post-production, include Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Bobby Lee and Gina Gershon. A firm release date has yet to be announced to the expected fans.
