Celtic’s Josip Juranovic is on the verge of a move to Monza from Serie A, with the Chelsea target heading for a £7million move after impressing with Croatia at the World Cup

  • Josip Juranovic impressed at the World Cup as Croatia finished third in Qatar
  • The full-back is now close to a £7million move to Serie A side Monza
  • He fell out of favor at Celtic ahead of the World Cup but is also wanted by Chelsea
  • Giorgos Giakoumakis could move from Urawa Reds after interest

Celtic’s Josip Juranovic close in on a £7million move to Serie A new boys Monza.

And the Parkhead club have made a £2.7million bid for South Korea’s World Cup star Cho Gue-sung after J-League side Urawa Reds began negotiations over a shock move for Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Both Juranovic and Giakoumakis rejected improved Celtic signing offers ahead of Christmas. And the Croatia World Cup defender is keen to join Monza – owned by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi – on loan with a deferred fee of £7million agreed for the summer.

The right-back’s representatives held talks in Milan late last week. Now Monza boss Adriano Galliani wants to finalize a deal with Celtic in the coming days. Meanwhile, reports in Japan say Urawa – funded by Mitsubishi – is in talks with Celtic over a transfer fee, with “negotiations progressing well”.

Giakoumakis, who currently earns £11,000 a week at Glasgow, is frustrated with both his salary and his lack of playing time.

Urawa, who worked with Denmark’s FC Midtjylland last week, wants Greek and Brazilian Thiago Santana to strengthen their attacking options.

Giakoumakis last scored for Celtic in October but hit the woodwork twice after coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 win against Kilmarnock.

Dodging speculation about the forward’s future, Ange Postecoglou said: “I’m just concerned with what lies ahead. Giako has been working hard but Kyogo is in great form and is scoring every week. So he has to come and contribute – and he didn’t shy away from that.’

Celtic have identified South Korean World Cup striker Cho as the player they want to replace Giakoumakis.

Former Manchester United star Park Ji-Sung is leading the negotiations on behalf of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, with the Scottish champions ready to pay almost £3million to get his man.

Mainz have reportedly cooled their interest in the striker after concerns over the financial package, according to reports in Germany.
