A handwritten note in chalk reserving tables in a public park has caused a furore among social media users.

The message was written just outside a pavilion in a park in Brisbane when an attempt was made to reserve it from 5pm to 9pm on January 17.

It is not certain that the embassy’s backers reserved the spot with Brisbane City Council.

Brisbane City Council states that only certain areas within parks can be booked for non-commercial or community-based events.

‘[They can’t reserve] unless it is in one of the locations where you can actually book and pay. But I doubt it,” wrote one social media user.

However, many who have previously booked parts of public parks for events such as weddings found the council shrugged when asked to remove people from booked areas.

‘It [reserving] costs money and they can’t guarantee you the spot either – people can still use it as it’s public,” wrote another social media user.

An image of the message was posted to Reddit with the caption, “Thoughts on public park reservations?”

The post provoked terse reactions from users.

“Do it the way it should be done — come two hours earlier than you need to and put your stuff above what you need and stay there until your party shows up,” wrote one Reddit user.

Reddit users mostly poked fun at the attempt to reserve the pavilion with a chalk booking (pictured).

Another responded, saying, “You didn’t hit my friends, water and chalk erasers.”

‘Do the Muppets a favor and wash off the chalk. Just like her dreams of being there by 5pm,” agreed one user.

‘Nope. Just like fitness equipment. Either you use it there or someone else will,” commented another user.

A user, who agreed with the sign, said: “Certain parks have bookable areas.

“In my view [In My Opinion] If it’s bookable…it makes sense to give a warning so people don’t have to pack when they’re already set up.’
