Chelsea are considering an approach to Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo as they struggle to fill the void left by N’Golo Kante’s injury.

After failing to land Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez, the Blues are once again looking to other names on their wish list.

However, Brighton will not sell Caicedo on the cheap.

Caicedo impressed during his international stint with Ecuador at the 2022 World Cup, as well as the Seagulls’ stellar start to the current season.

The 21-year-old, who joined Brighton in February 2021, has three years left on his contract with the Amex.

Brighton have previously indicated they have no plans to sell, although a steep price tag would likely encourage them to let Caicedo go.

Back in September, Brighton boss Graham Potter said £42million could get Caicedo’s boots – but he has now taken over Chelsea.

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber said last week the Seagulls have yet to receive an offer for Caicedo given interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

Chelsea are looking to strengthen in midfield as the Blues have been hampered by Kante’s long-term injury.

The France star has been playing since October after suffering a hamstring injury with expectations of a return in late February or early March.

Despite the injury, Chelsea are in talks with Kante to extend his contract beyond the end of this season.

The Blues are expected to lose Jorginho in the summer as the Italian’s contract expires.

Chelsea have reached out to Caicedo after Benfica boss Roger Schmidt said the Fernandez pursuit was ‘complete’.

The £112million prodigy had played a key role in Argentina’s World Cup success in Qatar.

Chelsea also retain an interest in Real Madrid youngster Rafa Marin, although a deal is believed to be difficult to achieve.

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s striker Marcus Thuram is also in demand, as is an additional reinforcement at right-back.

Thursday’s 2-1 defeat by Fulham keeps Chelsea 10th in the Premier League, increasing the pressure on under-fire manager Potter.
