Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that both Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk were injured in training.

The Chelsea manager has made several changes for the visit of Brentford in the west London derby on Saturday, with Reece James, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Nicolas Jackson all returning to the squad.

Fernandez, who announced the birth of his newborn son on Friday, and Mudryk were both pictured in training ahead of the game but will miss the game against Thomas Frank’s side.

Pochettino says the pair have suffered muscle injuries but expects to return to the team soon.

“Both Enzo and Misha felt something during training yesterday, both were minor muscle injuries,” he said.

“We were hoping it would be OK for them to be in the squad, but unfortunately they’re not quite ready yet.” “Neither of them are big problems, but we didn’t want to take any risks.”

“Especially with Enzo, he and his partner just had a baby, maybe that was one reason why he felt a little unwell yesterday!”

“He will now rest and recover and hopefully be back in the team as soon as possible.”

After a slow start to his Chelsea career, Mudryk scored two goals in his last three league games before his injury.

This coincided with Chelsea’s resurgence as they look to extend their unbeaten run against Brentford to five games.
