Chelsea have confirmed goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has had surgery after breaking his finger in training this week.
Mendy’s setback is another blow for the Blues, who lost Mason Mount to injury ahead of their game against Manchester City on Thursday, while Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic were replaced after batting during the game.
The Premier League side are yet to announce how long Mendy will be sidelined but have said the 30-year-old will “work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation period”.

Christian Pulisic also had to get up early on Thursday night against Man City
It was a stop-start race for the Senegalese keeper, who lost his starting XI spot to Kepa Arrizabalaga in September.
Mendy failed to start six straight league games after being dropped by Graham Potter, but he was snapped back up just before the World Cup.
However, he has not made the squad for any of Chelsea’s games since returning from Qatar due to a shoulder problem and has now been ruled out with a finger injury.
Kepa seems set for a longer run with the side, although some fans and pundits question his role in City’s winning goal against Chelsea on Thursday.

Graham Potter’s Chelsea squad is currently decimated by injuries, most recently Mendy
That defeat at Stamford Bridge has left Chelsea 10 points adrift of the top four and problems continue to mount for Potter, now without a number of key players.
Reece James was injured in Chelsea’s first game since the World Cup, while N’Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell are both long absent and summer signing Wesley Fofana is out with a knee problem.
Fofana’s setback came in a mid-season friendly shortly after Armando Broja was sidelined for the remainder of the season following a serious knee injury.
Potter’s options now appear very limited and things aren’t getting any easier for the Chelsea boss as his side travel to City to try and avenge their league defeat in the FA Cup on Sunday.
