Child star Waterloo Road, 14, has a famous father… but can you see the family resemblance?

Waterloo Road returned to TV screens on Tuesday after an eight-year hiatus, with many famous faces returning to BBC One drama.

But a child star is part of a famous family, Scarlett Thomas, 14, who plays Izzie Charles on the show, shares showbiz connections.

The aspiring actress is not only the daughter of Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas and Coronation Street actor Tina O’Brien, 39, who rose to fame on the soap opera alongside Scarlett’s father, 38.

Tina famously played Sarah Platt and Ryan played Jason Grimshaw.

Scarlett is also the niece of Ryan’s brother Adam, who plays their onscreen father, Donte.

Adam returned to his role as Donte in the school series alongside on-screen wife Chloe, played by Katie Griffiths, after a 15-year hiatus.

The show is a complete family affair with Adam’s son Teddy, 7, whom he shares with his wife Caroline Thomas, who also appears on screen as his son.

It comes after Adam revealed what it was really like working on the reboot of Waterloo Road with his son Teddy and niece Scarlett.

The 34-year-old actor has shared how he wondered what he had “let himself into” after the young couple had a fight on day one on set – before things settled down.

On Wednesday, Lorraine Adam said: “I know the kids very well, I have my son Teddy and my niece as my children on the show.

“The first day on set they were fighting, Teddy was crying and I was like, ‘What have I gotten myself into?’

“But they were amazing and I hate to say it, but they are better than me!”

Returning to the show in general, he added: “I did the very first series, I was there for four series, and it was the time of my life, so to be asked 13/14 years later to be asked back was amazing to go. ‘

“It was nice to go back so many years later and see our characters (Dante and Chloe) as one big happy family.”

The cast of the Waterloo Road reboot has started filming in Greater Manchester, in time for an expected release later this year, almost seven years after it was axed by the BBC.

Fellow actors playing the student characters have been announced as Adam Abbou as Danny Lewis, Priyasasha Kumari as Samia Choudhry, and Noah Valentine as Preston Walters.

Adam Ali was cast as Kai Sharif, Alicia Forde as Kelly-Jo Rafferty, Francesco Piacentini-Smith as Dean Weever, Liam Scholes as Noel McManus, and Lucy Eleanor Begg as Caz Williams.
