As it stands, Chelsea have won just one game in the Premier League from their last eight games and currently sit 10th in the table.
Following Chelsea’s defeat by City, Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Did Chelsea play well? I thought they did it in the first half but they got overrun in the second half.
“Is this the Chelsea the fans want to see, where they’re applauding them for their efforts? Chelsea have been a team to win big trophies over the last 20 years and they seem miles away from that.

“The question is, how much can Todd Boehly take? Chelsea go to City in the FA Cup at the weekend – if they go out there I just wonder if they will see it as too big a job for Graham Potter.
“It was a difficult pre-season for Chelsea – there were rumors that Thomas Tuchel wasn’t happy. In the end he left and it was difficult for Potter to come in, but this is a Chelsea team that just isn’t doing well enough.’
Speaking further about the money Boehly had invested in the team, Sutton said it’s difficult to see “where” the team is going despite its star-studded squad.
Sutton asked if the role of manager was “too big” for Graham Potter.
Sutton said: “They’ve spent a fortune and you feel with Potter about key players missing tonight – Mount, Chilwell, James, Sterling have to get out early.
“But it’s not good enough – I don’t think anyone expected Chelsea to win this game tonight, they’re not the team they used to be and how long will Todd give Boehly Potter? It’s so hard to see where this is going.”
Sutton was also very critical of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s performance against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Aubameyang started Chelsea’s draw with City on the bench but came on after just five minutes when Raheem Sterling was forced off injured.
However, Graham Potter was less than impressed with the 33-year-old’s performance and decided to replace him with Omari Hutchinson in the second half.
Speaking of the striker’s contribution, Sutton said: “I thought Aubameyang was in truth hopeless and offered very little. Aubameyang’s move is really revealing, it’s embarrassing. He’s been picked up, and rightly so.”
