Christian Wilkins describes the shocking online abuse he received for wearing a dress for the Logies: “People told me I was a disgrace.”

Christian Wilkins has reflected on the avalanche of online hate he received for wearing a dress at TV Week 2022’s Logie Awards.

The 29-year-old socialite told ABC’s Insight this week he’s received thousands of trolling comments after daring to defy gender stereotypes by wearing a white backless dress on the red carpet.

‘Persons [were] tell me to OD, people tell me that I’m a disgrace. I mean, I was very surprised to find out that the patriarchy was so weak that it could be destroyed with a piece of white silk,” Wilkins said.

The model and actor said he was genuinely shocked by the level of backlash surrounding his outfit choice and hopes it inspires others to express their true identity.

He also credited his parents, entertainment guru Richard Wilkins and flight attendant Michelle Burke, for their continued support of his gender expression.

“As a kid, I kind of always loved anything pink and glittery… I was never exactly encouraged to wear dresses. But my parents said if I wanted to, they would definitely let me,” he explained.

“I’d say, ‘Cause I woke up and I was a little sad today, and I just felt like it was going to be a pink glitter eyeshadow day.” I’ve always gone into makeup with that ethos.

“If you’re going to wear it, if you’re going to do eyes and lips, who tells you you can only do one thing? Do it! Do whatever is good for you.”
