Christmas Day weather forecasts for your part of Australia

With seven nights to go how the Christmas Day weather is forecast in your part of Australia

  • In the east, north and center of the country it could rain on December 25
  • In the west of the country it could hit 40C in a repeat of last Christmas

With Christmas Day just seven nights away, meteorologists have released their early predictions of what the weather will be like that day.

Weatherzone compared three different computer-based weather models to predict some possible predictions for December 25th.

However, Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domensino cautioned against taking forecasts made more than seven days in advance with caution.

Two weather models are forecasting cool weather for Christmas Day in south-east Australia, while all models are expecting rain in the northern tropics, which is normal for this time of year

“With longer periods of seven to 10 days, there’s usually so much uncertainty in the forecast that it’s better to look at general weather patterns rather than what to expect at a specific location,” Mr. Domensino said.

On Thursday, Weatherzone ran three forecast models through two different maps to predict the possibility of precipitation and high temperatures across the country.

A number of trends have emerged, including forecasts that rain will fall over most of the north and east coasts.

However, there is quite a bit of disagreement as to where and how much rain will fall on December 25th.

Heavy rain is possible in the middle of the country and all models anticipate rain in the northern tropics, which is normal for this time of year.

On the other side of the country, the weather could be two model poles apart with cool weather forecast in south east Australia.

Mr Domensino said it was currently unlikely that any capital city would surpass 40C on December 25 and some cities could experience below-average coolness.

“This view may come as a relief to anyone who spent Christmas in Perth last year as the city was hit by a bank holiday heatwave, hitting a muggy 42.8C on December 25,” he said.

Last year, the hottest temperature ever recorded in an Australian capital was on Christmas Day, surpassing the previous record of 42.1C in Adelaide in 1888.
