have enough of it! Claire tweeted that allowing such trolling “is irresponsible of the people running it.”
“I’m not sure I’ve ever been called a mean, rude bitch, the fat one out of the steps, a self-obsessed chav, and been told I can’t have an ego since I’ve only been singing songs for 8 years Olds in 4 consecutive tweets! What a world we live in 2023.
“Not sure what started all of this, but definitely a massive reason Twitter is a toxic platform!
“Whoever is in charge should be ashamed!! @verified @Twitter @TwitterCreators @TwitterSupport @TwitterMktgUK @TwitterBusiness.
‘I’m all fine by the way! I’m just sick of this shit. It’s just not cool. Luckily I’m a 45 year old who has heard it all and cares less now but we’re not all there yet!! It’s irresponsible of the people running it.’
Last May, Claire spoke openly about her struggles with body image and shared her concerns about how easily photos can be heavily filtered online today.
On the Spinning Plates podcast with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, the Steps singer emphasized the importance of editing and airbrushing apps.
She said: “Also knowing what the kids have to do… all we had to deal with was the airbrushing.
“I remember going to a meeting years ago and our record company trying to convince us to do FHM.

“And they persuaded us or tried to persuade us to come and bring two photos.
“And they said that’s the photo – the airbrushed photo – but that’s what it looked like before, so see what we can do! We can make you look like this! And that was the selling point.
“And now, this is on your phone. So it’s even less real than it was then.’
The star, who added that she was both “dangerously thin” and “obese,” also shared that there’s still a lack of understanding of the mental aspect of eating disorders.
