Clementine Ford criticizes men who criticize other guys who dare to wear dresses

Clementine Ford has lashed out at men who criticize other guys for wearing dresses in an angry tirade — claiming they’re afraid of being attracted to them.

The feminist commentator said that men who associate makeup and “feminine” clothing with women are more likely to belittle other men who wear dresses for fear of being attracted to them — or being “tricked” by them.

A growing number of straight men are choosing to express themselves in traditionally “feminine” clothing, makeup and nail polish, including Bachelor star and musician Jed McIntoish and Olympic boxer Harry Garside.

Garside and McIntosh have joined a growing list of straight men who are defying stereotypes about what it means to be a “traditional” man.

Ms Ford took to Facebook earlier this week to condemn the men who have made fun of those who have dared to express their masculinity differently.

“Because they associate makeup and “feminine” clothing so strongly with women, and they perceive women as objects of their consumption, that they fear being ATTRACTIVE to a man who they believe to be attracted to them in a feminine way presents. Worse that they could be tricked by one,’ she said.

“I think basically it’s not the idea that these men are putting themselves down – it’s that they are FREEING themselves,” she wrote.

“It reminds men who have yet to do this work of their own emotional suppression.

“And if it can be liberating for men to embrace things that women enjoy and associate with, what does that say about the need many of them must see women as inferior to them?”

Ms Ford said when a man’s notion of manhood is threatened by “a bit of lipstick, eyeliner and some fabric” then it might not be as robust as they think.

“A man who is truly comfortable in his own skin and confident in his masculinity would not be threatened by any of that,” she continued.

“Frankly, the world needs far more men who are willing to play with aesthetics, color and fun than men who maintain systems and individual views that enforce their emotional repression.”

Christian Wilkins, the son of TV presenter Richard Wilkins, has become known for rocking “feminine” clothing that challenges some people’s perceptions of masculinity.

The socialite wore a backless, floor-length cream dress to the Logies 2022 and was accused of “normalizing” the idea that men can rock dresses.

Anonymous user @SaraVic333 tweeted, “It’s not normal” for men to wear women’s clothing, before adding, “STOP normalizing these cops!!!”

The trendsetter responded by poking fun at how some people get hysterical about men who like to wear dresses, make-up or nail polish.

‘What’s happening to the world!!!! Masculinity is coming to an end!!! Burn everything!!’ he tweeted in enthusiastic support from his followers on Twitter.

His father has praised Christian for expressing his unique style.

“To anyone who dares to suggest that I am in any way ‘ashamed’ of my son Christian… for whatever reason… you are wrong!” Mr Wilkins wrote on Instagram.

“I couldn’t be prouder! He is an extraordinary man who will make his mark on the world long after his detractors are gone. I love you unconditionally,” he added.

Harry Garside, an Olympic boxer, has recently spoken candidly about embracing his femininity as a straight man and trying to break down harmful stereotypes.

Garside is a skilled counter-puncher who has made a huge impression on pundits since turning pro last year. He is known for his penchant for wearing nail polish and dresses as part of his determination to be himself no matter what people say.

The 25-year-old wore an Armani skirt to the GQ Man of the Year Awards and told the Herald Sun he wanted to support “individuality” and “uniqueness” in people.

“I really believe that as a society we should support individuality, uniqueness and the herd that supports that, not the herd that supports people who feel like they need to conform and be like everyone else,” he said Publication.

“I think you realize that as an adult it’s a superpower to have a different uniqueness, but when you’re younger you feel the need to conform.”
