Cody Gakpo admits his Liverpool debut was ‘sloppy’ after his £44m move from PSV

Cody Gakpo admits his Liverpool debut against Wolves was ‘sloppy’ following his £44m move from PSV but insists he will work hard to ‘improve’ ahead of his Brighton trip.
Cody Gakpo has admitted to being “sloppy” in his Liverpool debut but said he was committed to “improving” his game to help the team succeed.
Gakpo signed a five-and-a-half-year deal for PSV for £44million just after Christmas and made his debut for the club on Saturday.
The 23-year-old started the 2-2 FA Cup draw against Wolves at Anfield and played 84 minutes before being replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website about his debut, Gakpo said: “[There was a] really great atmosphere.
“For my own game, I think I’ve shown some good moments and some sloppy moments.
“So I can still improve on those points and keep working and trying to help the team as much as I can.
“Obviously you learn the most by playing games, so I’m excited [to more].’
Gakpo has another chance to open his account for his new club on Saturday when the Reds travel to Brighton in the Premier League.

Liverpool came to a 2-2 draw with Wolves on Saturday night – despite going from a deficit to 2-1 thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah.
Jurgen Klopp will have been disappointed with the result as Liverpool were the clear favorites to win the FA Cup game at Anfield.
However, things could have been worse for the Merseyside club as Toti Gomes scored in the 81st minute of the game to make it 3-2 for Wolves.
But assistant referee Nick Hopton raised his offside flag as the visitors cheered away.

Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui was visibly frustrated on the touchline, but reacted very diplomatically after the game.
He said, “I can’t do anything now. It is a pity. I spoke to the referee [Andy Madley] and he was very polite to listen to us.
“I make mistakes every day, but a mistake happened here. The truth is we scored three goals. It’s hard to take.’
