Grammy-winning comedy duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong reunited Tuesday in Manhattan’s SoHo, hours after it was announced they are executive producing their own biopic.

The 76-year-old LA native and the 84-year-old Canadian most likely spoke about their origin story for Hidden Pictures, which is the same production company behind Cheech’s recent film Shotgun Wedding.

“We’re excited to show the world how two guys from completely different backgrounds came together who changed comedy and made cannabis mainstream!” Marin and Chong shared with THR in a statement.

Director Kristian Mercado Figueroa took to Instagram on Tuesday to confirm his involvement, writing, “So hyped for the team involved making this possible. Can someone pass me a joint? … I believe in the power of love and friendship and comedy. This movie will be so special. More than honored.«

Cheech & Chong is being scripted by Ren & Stimpy reboot writers Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan.

The cannabis-loving counterculture duo, who originally met in Canada in the late sixties, have released several marijuana-themed albums and films (four of which were directed by Tommy).

Marin and Chong – who split between 1985 and 2008 – are best known as screenwriters and stars in Lou Adler’s $2 million buddy stoner comedy Up In Smoke, which was a cult classic that grossed $104 million worldwide in 1978 hit the box office.

Rae Dawn Chong’s father and the avid Chicano art collector were last seen together at the Global Icon Award ceremony for the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28.

Cheech (born Richard) currently plays Julio, opposite Woody Harrelson, in Bobby Farrelly’s solo directorial debut, Champions, which has grossed $13 million since its theatrical release on March 10.

And Tommy recently reprized his role as Leo Chingkwake, a Point Place Army veteran-turned-hippie, in two episodes of Netflix’s That ’90s Show, which was a revival of Fox’s That ’70s Show.

Of the two, Chong was the only one ever to have served time in prison for marijuana.

The cannabis activist served nine months at Taft Correctional Institution in 2003-2004 after being charged for his involvement in funding and promoting Chong Glass/Nice Dreams, which distributed 7,500 bongs online.
