Meanwhile, a source close to the film told DailyMail.com: “Nearly 25 years ago, Courtney Love auditioned for a role on Fight Club, a role she was never offered. You can’t get fired for a job you didn’t get. It is well known that roles are not decided by other actors but by the director.”

However, on the WTF Podcast, Courtney claimed that she turned down Pitt’s pitch to play Cobain in a film and that she received a call from Fight Club director David Fincher who reportedly fired her from the project : ‘He fired me because I would not let Brad play Kurt.’

“We were doing all these table reads, I had gone to work privately with David, and I get this call and it’s from Gus Van Sant, and Gus is having lunch with Brad Pitt … He’s like, ‘Brad really wants to do a movie about music.”

“It was like hell was opening up, oh my god, ‘We want to do it because of Kurt!'” And 22 years later, I’m still kicking myself for not having the shark instinct, “Sure” to say, and screw them later. I’ve gone nuclear “I don’t make a fist, who the fuck do you think you are?!”

She later received a call from Fincher, who allegedly fired her from the film. ‘My landline rang and it was David Fincher. I knew it would be him. By the way, God bless Helena Bonham Carter. she is a genius I’ve never seen that movie… And yes, he fired me because I wouldn’t let Brad play Kurt.”
