Two cool finishes from Wilfred Zaha ensured Crystal Palace salvaged a 2-1 win over Valladolid after losing a goal at Selhurst Park in sub-zero temperatures.

Sergio Leon put Patrick Vieira’s side on the backfoot in the first half of Friday night’s friendly, with the center forward heading home with a deep free-kick to silence fans at the stadium.

The home side responded almost immediately with Michael Olise sticking out throughout the game, flicking a 25-yard free-kick just wide of the post.

It wasn’t long in the second half for the Eagles to regain their footing as Zaha got a quiet finish past the keeper from a difficult angle to the right of goal mouth.

He followed that up with another cool shot from the penalty spot to put the home side back in front after Olise was brought down dancing on the edge of the Valladolid penalty area.

Palace looked good throughout the game but struggled to convert their chances against the Spanish side, who are 14th in LaLiga.

It’s been a difficult winter break for Vieira’s side, who drew with Botafogo RJ and Trabzonspor before being beaten 3-1 by Napoli last week.

But it was good news for academy stars Kofi Balmer, David Ozoh and John-Kymani Gordon, who all had valuable minutes under their belts.

They will now prepare to face Fulham at home in the Premier League on Boxing Day with a win that moves them sixth in the table, level on points with Liverpool.
