Damar Hamlin thanks Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars for ‘coming together in prayer’

Damar Hamlin tweeted his thanks to the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars as they put their rivalry aside on Saturday night to pray for him ahead of their big AFC South showdown.

The two teams gathered in midfield at TIAA Bank Field and took a moment to offer a prayer for Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest Monday night while playing for the Bills against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hamlin had previously posted to social media for the first time since the incident but felt compelled to speak out again minutes after seeing the scenes.

“Love is palpable and extremely real. No matter race or religion, all come together in prayer!’ Hamlin wrote.

The NFL itself shared footage of the teams getting together, writing, “We are all thinking of you Damar.”

Earlier on Saturday, the Chiefs played the Raiders in their first game since Monday’s Bills vs. Bengals, capping an emotional week for the sport.

The Bills provided a positive update on 24-year-old Hamlin’s condition on Saturday, saying: “According to doctors at UC Medical Center, Damar is making further progress in his recovery but remains in critical condition.

“He continues to breathe on his own and his neurological function is excellent.”

Before seeing the Titans and Jaguars’ symbolic gesture, Hamlin wrote on Instagram: “When you put true love out into the world, it comes back to you three times as much.

“The love was overwhelming, but I am grateful for every single person who prayed and reached out for me. We brought the world back together (sic).

“If you know me, you know that this will only make me stronger. On a long way keep on praying for me.’

The NFL will also support Hamlin during all Week 18 games beginning Saturday afternoon, including a pregame moment of support by painting Hamlin’s #3 on the 30-yard line and pregame jerseys saying “Love.” for Damar 3″. The Bills will also wear ‘3’ jersey patches.

Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and his heart stopped Monday night after making what appeared to be a routine tackle in the first quarter against the Bengals.

The game was initially suspended before being officially canceled later in the week.

The Bills plan to pay tribute to Hamlin and the first responders and medical staff who treated the player when they end the season Sunday by hosting the New England Patriots.
