Damar Hamlin’s family reveal Buffalo Bills player suffered ‘lung damage’

Damar Hamlin’s family have revealed the player suffered “lung damage” after being resuscitated twice on Monday night but that his ventilator was reduced from 100 per cent to just 50 per cent.
The 24-year-old Buffalo Bills player is said to be “on the up” but remains sedated in intensive care for about 36 hours after suffering cardiac arrest on the field following a big hit against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaking to reporters outside the University of Cincinnati Medical Center last night, Hamlin’s uncle Dorrian Glenn said: “Right now it’s just trying to get him to breathe better. He’s currently on a ventilator just to help him breathe.
“He has a little lung damage from yesterday but he was 100 per cent on the ventilator which helped him breathe but now he’s at 50 per cent so that’s a good thing.

“Like I said, we just take it day by day. I am grateful for all the prayers and support.’
Glenn also revealed for the first time that Bills’ safety was not only brought back to life once in the field, but also after being transported by ambulance to the hospital.
“His heart had failed, so they had to revive him twice. They resuscitated him on the field before taking him to the hospital and then they resuscitated him a second time when they took him to the hospital,” he told CNN.
“They sedated him just to give him a better chance to just keep healing better. We just take it day by day. It appears to be trending positively up.
“He is still in intensive care and sedated while they continue to administer medical treatment. I am grateful for the staff who worked with him.

Buffalo Bills security, which has set up charity toy drives to raise money for its local community, had attacked Bengals receiver Tee Higgens in the first quarter of Monday night’s crucial game
“My nephew is humble. He will be overwhelmed by love. He’s a real, positive guy from the toy ride to his coaching clinic.
Hamlin was immediately rushed to the hospital after being administered CPR on the field while surrounded by his horrified teammates after suffering a big hit in the early stages of Monday night’s NFL game.
He is currently in critical condition and the sporting world is shocked at his sudden deterioration after landing a tackle on Bengals receiver Tee Higgens.
“His heartbeat was restored on the field” and he was transferred to the medical center “for further testing and treatment,” the Bills team tweeted Tuesday.

Bills’ players were visibly stunned as their teammate received life-saving treatment on the field.
Jordon Rooney, a close friend and family representative, told CNN and GMA that the NFL star is a “fighter” but his family is “concerned.”
Hamlin’s family was at the game when he collapsed and his mother, Nina, took the ambulance to the hospital.
On the field, he managed to get up briefly before falling backwards to the ground and lay motionless as a flood of support poured in for the young player.
Meanwhile, the NFL announced this week that the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals game will not be rearranged for this week following Hamlin’s cardiac arrest.
“The NFL remains in regular contact with the medical team caring for Damar Hamlin, as well as with the Bills and Bengals organizations and the NFL Players Association,” an NFL statement said Tuesday afternoon.

Hamlin collapsed moments later, falling backwards and lying motionless on the floor
“After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadership, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell today informed clubs that the Bills-Bengals game will not resume this week.
“The NFL has not made a decision regarding a possible resumption of play at a later date.
“The league made no changes to the Week 18 regular season schedule.
‘We will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available.’
There is speculation as to whether the game will eventually be voided as the playoffs quickly approach.
The Kansas City Chiefs meet the Las Vegas Raiders this Saturday and if Patrick Mahomes and company win, they will seal the No. 1 seed for the playoffs and put the Bills-Bengals academically. If the Chiefs lose, the Bills would still have a chance to claim the top seed.
